Crush — Rie & Qole
Crush is what happens when a singer-songwriter and a singer/producer build a record about the exact feeling the title describes: a crush turning into something with real feelings attached. Rie and Qole wrote and performed every song themselves, and the EP follows new love from the first flicker to the point where it stops being casual.
The sound moves the way the feeling does. Pop and bedroom pop sit next to indie, hip hop, R&B, and slowcore — not as a genre checklist, but because a crush doesn't stay in one lane either. Some of it floats, some of it hits, some of it slows all the way down.
Released August 14, 2025, this one has Club Not Cult's fingerprints on the back half of the process: Qole produced every track, and Cole handled the mix and master alongside Alex Sexton at A Floor Above Studios — the last mile of making a record actually sound like a record.
A project like this doesn't stay a two-person job for long. Jeffrey Stevenson brought saxophone to Open Window. Kyle Stocking laid guitar on Down For Whatever and Lucky Charm. Alex Sexton pulled double duty with drums on Down For Whatever. The cover is a Kendrick Russell photograph, designed by Rie herself.
